Yesterday I went lake diving to complete my Scuba certification. The lake was super cool! There were HUGE fish swimming around the bottom...BUT I didn't get to see them because I had a little accident.
We swam to 50 feet deep before we started our trip back. I was getting pretty heavy, so I let a little air in my BCD. Lesson learned. I shot up to the top like a cork. Normally this could cause lung overexpansion or a ripped lung, but luckily I kept my cool, kept breathing out, and tried to slow myself down by letting air out of my BCD.
THEN, when I got to the top, my BCD was deflated and I started sinking too fast. I dropped about ten feet before I could equalize and I felt my ears explode. I managed to swim to the surface, but in a lot of pain. The rest of the day my ears were completely congested. My hearing was pretty bad and the pain was pretty intense. I couldnt make it home, so I stopped at the store and got some sudafed. Some may say, "Why didn't you go to the hospital?". I say, "Screw the hospital! I can handle the pain!."
My ears are still congested today, but the pain is pretty much gone. BUT, I am now a certified scuba diver......
Soooo....... lets hope that I can still go on my dive next week in the Virgin Islands!!!!
